about

Unsettling, washed guitars, warped synthesizers and church bells back a message of feeling the numbness of routine through the lens of a fever dream. The song samples dialogue from the Swedish Christmas film “Fanny and Alexander”. The premise of the song is based loosely on the film and highlights how the discontent and disconnect in adult romantic relationships can affect a child immensely.

The dialogue sampled in the track records a conversation between Alexander and his stepfather, where Alexander is asked “why does one lie?” and “why does one not tell the truth?” Alexander had spread “lies” to his classmates that his mother had sold him to a circus. An imaginary place he’d rather be than in his current predicament. He responds with “one lies to gain an advantage.”

Thank you to Ellen Gurley for allowing us to borrow "Allergy Annie" for the cover art.

Happy holidays.

lyrics

the dogs are in
the kids are dozed
the doors are locked
the bars are closed

the dogs are in
covered in snow
her silhouette
him growing old
